Beloved Lotte,

Your post moved me deeply by combining the poignant love poem of Shikibu with the historical violence of this date.

I thought of all the nascent lovers of that glorious and innocent city, filled with the joy after meeting their loves for the first time and then anticipating their next visit together, with perhaps a touch of a hand, or revealed words of their hearts. Then gone; not to know the ache of love’s waiting, lost and scattered in that hot wind, never the touch made nor words spoken.

Oh Lotte. I reach across the distance tonight for a fleeting touch of you or the sound of your lovely voice.

Know that if we’re ever lost to each in this world, we’ll find each other in the next.

Missing You,
